Poppins is now a familiar sight on the High Street, but, originally, I believe this domestic building was extended to put a garage in front of it.
By 1926, Ernest Victor Lomas-Smith had opened an electrical shop there and Graham Barson (in Camberley & Yorktown between the wars) has a lovely photo of the shop front with what looks an amazing promotion for Ever Ready batteries. Apparently Lomas-Smith took over from Lenthalls.
Graham says that this is now the HSBC Bank, but I think that Poppins is the spot – does anyone know for sure?
15 High Street Camberley is now Kitchen Kapers, so that doesn’t help us at all!
More recently, the building was a jewellers – and before that?
