Now the best doughnuts in town – but before?

This shop front – Maria’s delicatessen, has been the subject of some discussion on Camberley Observed, and not only because they sell, apparently, the best doughnuts, with a luscious plum jam middle!

Several people remembered that it used to have curved glass windows and a tiled entrance with the name of a retailer.  Unfortunately, I do not have a photo of how it used to look, but I do remember that, before it became a second-hand bookshop it belonged to a bathroom firm, owned by the Layzells.

Can anyone fill in any more detail?
