….but I don’t know if it was because of her Green Tomato Pickle.  Chutnees (or Chutneys) might have been particularly popular because so many people in Camberley at the time when Mrs Bassett’s book was published had lived in India?  Or was it because ‘cold meats’ – aka left overs from a joint – were a popular supper meal and not just in summer?
