….is why I have managed to find a number of these envelopes, all from the same period addressed to the mother of the Poulter architects and sent from Bath.
They date from 1892 to December 1894. This letter was only sent a couple of days from another which is in a much more ‘agitated’ hand and has a deep mourning band of black.
I thought to begin with, that it was a member of the family of Charles Raleigh Knight (Camberley’s ‘founder’) writing back to the wife of one of the area’s ‘property developers’. But who died in December 1894 to send the sender into deep mourning? Charles’ wife did die in that year, but in February!
So, I am left with just three empty envelopes, all from the same place, and all addressed to the same woman. Any suggestions, anyone?
