The Mystery of the Lease……

July 2015 Assorted paper oddments 2

This seems to be a very standard lease although I was interested in the bit that said “…..not to affix to the exterior…any bill placard or advertising device whatsoever without the consent in wiring of the Lessor ….but the Lessee is to have the right to affix to the front and rear of the premises and to erect in the garden at the front and back of the premises a plate sign or board bearing the name Conewood Private Hotel luncheons, Teas and Dinners, served to Non-Residents.”  The Lessee, Ethel Maud Stratton was a spinster from 1 Queens Gardens, Lancaster Gate, London.  I wonder why she wanted to open a private hotel in Camberley?

By the way, if you happen to know anyone who currently lives at this address, I am happy to share the document with them!
